Cactus part-time language courses are typically offered at seven levels, from Cactus Level 1 to Cactus Level 7, suitable for students with and without prior knowledge of the language. Studied in sequence, the seven levels are designed to progress students from beginner level through to advanced. The programme can be picked up at any level, according to existing language skills. Each level can also be studied as a one-off course in its own right to build or refresh language skills at the chosen level.
Courses run consecutively throughout the year with breaks for the Easter and Christmas periods. This provides the opportunity for continuous training, allowing students to progress and move up to higher levels as their skills develop.
To help you decide which level is right for you, please look at the course level descriptions and take our online language level test.

The course outlines give an overview of the content and learning framework of Cactus part-time group courses and include themes, grammar and vocabulary you can typically expect to cover. These are intended as a guide only and our teachers may at times adapt the course content to suit the specific level, aims and interests of the class.

This excellent school in the heart of Manchester has been teaching foreign languages to business people for decades and has recently begun offering additional courses for holidaymakers who want an alternative to the enormous class sizes of adult education colleges: here the maximum class size is 12 and averages 8 students. A professional atmosphere is apparent and all teachers are highly qualified to British Council Standards, as well as being mostly native speakers. All classroom time is in the native language (English is never used) which enables students to learn comprehension skills very quickly. The school itself is located on Newton Street in the city centre, very close to Piccadilly Gardens and three minutes' walk from Piccadilly Train Station. Surrounded by cafes, shops and museums, it is close to all public transport routes.

The TeachersOur teachers are qualified and experienced language trainers, and are all native or bilingual speakers. They have been interviewed by our full time Academic Team, and have had their references followed up. We assign classes according to the strengths of our teachers and work with them to ensure the quality of course delivery is excellent at all times. We have also introduced a comprehensive Teacher Development Programme at Cactus, which incorporates a range of seminars, classroom observations, same-language teacher forums, regular newsletters, and information on methodology and hands-on teaching techniques. Our teaching philosophy is based on looking at ideas, asking questions, and meeting challenge.
Course MaterialsFor all Cactus Foreign Language Courses you will be supplied with course materials, which form the basis of your study.
At the end of your course you will receive a questionnaire. Your feedback enables us to maintain the quality of our language courses and ensure you're getting the maximum out of your chosen course.
Excellent. I feel I'm making real progress with the language. I really enjoy the lessons and I think the teacher is very good.
(Michelle, Apr 2008 )Very simple booking process would recommend to others seeking this type of course.
(Laura, Apr 2007 )Mr Ciconte is a good teacher, he keeps the pace at a good level and involves each member of the group. He has a informal style and gets the most out of his students.
(Anthony, Jan 2007 )Amaia has been fantastic so far - a good mix of information, always approachable and a very good teacher.
(Louisa, Jan 2007 )Amaia is an excellent teacher, she makes learning another language fun and she makes sure that you understand everything being taught.
(Jennifer, Jan 2007 )Maria is an excellent teacher who involves the whole group - she has a great personality and the entire group gets on very well. I feel as though my learning is improving and Maria helps where she knows we are struggling.
(Lisa, Oct 2006 )Francesco has struck a really great balance between fun and learning. The atmosphere in the class is very relaxed and supportive and Francesco is doing a great job of teaching us both the core foundations of Italian alongside functional vocabulary.
(Jen, Oct 2006 )If my current teacher, Maria Cesario, took the next course of Italian I would definitely enrol in the next course.
(Lucia, Oct 2006 )I am enjoying the course very much. I'm very happy with my teacher, Joanna, and her way of teaching. She is enthusiastic and professional.
(Moe, Oct 2006 )I would just like to say I am enjoying my course and that Maria is an excellent teacher.
(Chantelle, Jul 2006 )My lesson was fine thanks and everything went ok- think I'll enjoy this course! Thanks for checking.
(Eleanor, Apr 2006 )Thanks for the email. I really enjoyed my first lesson, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the course. Being in a small group of 8 was ideal, and Maria, the instructor was great.
(Katharine, Apr 2006 )Everything was very nice after the second lesson. Other language schools should learn from you.
(Roman, Apr 2006 )It went very well. The school was very efficient when I got there and the teacher is great. Looking forward to week 2.
(Gillian, Apr 2006 )I am making progress and it's enjoyable.
(Stephanie, Jan 2006 )Maria is a good teacher because she will stop the class if you fall behind and need catch up on any element of the lesson.
(Dave, Jan 2006 )Very pleasant and sociable. Understanding and patient with many queries at once. Enjoys the lessons despite our sense of humour. Quite satisfactory. No complaints.
(JULIE, Jan 2006 )All is well at the moment. Quite Happy.
(Daniel, Jan 2006 )Good course content, tries to include everyone and works at a pace which is inclusive, yet challenging. Everything is just as I expected. The pace of each lesson has been good and the lesson has been pitched at the appropriate level. Homework has been useful and encouraged me to do more. Friendly, well paced.
(Cynthia, Jan 2006 )Very good and helpful. Willing to stay and speak to you individually which helps. Also willing to go at a slower pace for the class. Very good and would recommend to others. The teacher is excellent.
(Margaret, Jan 2006 )Everything was fine. I am looking forward to my second lesson.
(Silvia, Jan 2006 )Have now have had my second lesson of the elementary Italian course. The first week back was a bit scary but I love it! Got the same tutor as beginners, who's great, so looking forward to the rest of the course.
(Cynthia, Jan 2006 )Very Good.
