Brighton Fringe Festival 2016 and Languages!

Brighton not only has great nightlife, shopping, beaches, the South Downs, and great weather (in comparison to the rest of the UK)a�� it also puts on the largest annual arts festival in England, second only to the Edinburgh Fringe in the UK. This year the Brighton Fringe takes place from 6th May to 5th June and there are plenty of language related events to get involved in.

Brazil: Encounter of Cultures, Maracatu Cruzeiro do Sul, 13th May 17.00
Brighton-based percussion and dance group, Maracatu Cruzeiro do Sul, brings you a colourful and exciting array of dances and sounds from the North East of Brazil.

Electric Cabaret Presents a�?Moulin Rougea��, Grosvenor Casino Brighton, 27th May 21.30
Lilian Lake, is the sassy hostess of the Moulin Rouge, and welcomes you to a night of unforgettable entertainment. The night will include Can Can Girls, Absinthe fire fairies, sizzling tango dancers, trapeze performers, vintage burlesque showgirls, and acrobatics. Dona��t miss out on the dancing on the tables!

Valentina del Pearls and four other leading lights of French New Burlesque bring you a remarkable performance offering glitter, glamour and humour. Le Burlesque Klub is performing its retro brand of sexy and funny burlesque performance with plenty of sequins and laughter.

The Dutch-esses: the two Dutch girls Comedy Show! 7-8 and 14-15 May 17.15
Come and join two Dutch girls Simone Keuenen and Arna Spek (BBC Radio 4 New Comedy award heat 1) who will share their embarrassing and hilarious stories of how wrong you can get cultural references and how dangerous this can be.

GREEK and BALKAN DIALECTS

Balkan Cypriot Greek & Traditional Ottoman Music Michalis Kouloumis Solo Violin, St Michael and All Angels Church, 22nd May 19.30 A?7.00 (A?6.00 in advance)
Solo violinist Michalis Kouloumis performs traditional music from the Balkans, Cyprus, Greece and Turkey. The concert is entitled ‘Displaced Dreams’, and includes music from Constantinople. Contact Adam Leclercq via the church website.

ARABIC

Club Cairo, 22nd May 19.00 A?12 (A?10.50 in advance)
Club Cairo offers an exotic array of entertainment from Arabia with live music, dance and theatre. The Arabian Fantasy Dance Theatre re-tell the fairytale a�?Julnah of the Seaa��, and Hazir will be performing a live set of classic songs from the Middle East/Turkey. Accompanying them will be a dazzling array of belly dancers.

Mediterranean and Middle Eastern folk music from Oudolin, 13th May 20.00 A?10 (A?6 in advance)
Hastings-based Oudolin will be bringing you authentic music from a range of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern countries including Egypt, Syria, Greece, Lebanon, Turkey and Moorish Spain. Featuring the oud, violin, guitar, tsouras, percussion and vocals.
