How long have you been teaching for and how long for Cactus?

I have been teaching English and French for over 20 years, with always the same passion! With Cactus I have been teaching since the beginning of 2017. I teach French at the Cactus centre in Brighton.

How long have you been living in the UK?

I left France in 2010, to come to Brighton, leaving France during the economic recession but since 2010, I have spent two and a half years in Libya where I was in charge of setting up a French teaching department for the Libyan Police in Ajeelat city (between Tripoli and the Tunisian border), ordering books and helping teachers. During the political problems I went to Turkey for a year and a half, where I was Director of studies for I.S.E. Konya and teaching French and English at the same time.

What is your degree and teaching experience?

I have studied Classical Arabic at the « l’Université d’Oran », Algeria.

How many countries have you travelled to and worked in?

I have lived and worked in the Arab and Muslim world (Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Turkey), I have also widely travelled in the Arab world (Mauritania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon), but also extensively in many European countries.

How many languages do you speak?

I speak 4 languages and two dialects (Arabic, French, English, Spanish, Moroccan and Algerian).

What other fields are you interested in apart from teaching?

I am very interested about learning new cultures and I love history and geography but also aviation and I hope to take up flying lessons in Shoreham as I am passionate about aviation.

What do you like best about teaching French?

I love my language and I enjoy teaching and sharing my culture with others. I am also an « eternal » student, as as well as teaching I am learning and picking up a lot from my students, about their lives, their passions and their cultures. It’s a real passion to exchange and establish a great rapport with students from all over the world.

What was your best teaching experience?

I don’t really know!! Every moment in my teaching experience has been very rich, building a rapport and learning from others ! Every time is unique and as a teacher I constantly learn about different people/culture/traditions…

What is your favourite book?

Since a kid I have loved James Bond and together with travel, adventure, excitement and thrill I have very much enjoyed the « SAS » saga by Gérard de Villiers. The « French James Bond » is an exciting book, favourite of Nicolas Sarkozy, former French President and for many years a best seller in a lot of book stores. The story is about an Austrian prince, who, to be able to restore and finance the renovation of his castle on the Austrio-Slovaken border, works as a free-lance spy for the CIA on a lot of different missions around the world. An exciting book, difficult to stop reading!

Hope to see you very soon in my class!
Et j’espère à très bientôt!
