How long have you been teaching for and how long for Cactus?

I have been teaching this language for the past 12 years and I have been teaching for Cactus for 7 years in London.

How long have you been living in the UK?

I have been living in the UK for over 16 years.

Where were you born and what is your city famous for?

I originally came from Xi’an – it is famous for the Terracotta Amy exhibition of the Qin Dynasty, which has 2000 years of history! It is an old historical city, rich in culture.

What is your degree and teaching experience?

I gained my University Degree which is teaching relevant subject and senior Mandarin Teacher’s training qualification in the UK. I teach all levels of classes, groups & on 1:1 basis, both general, business and exam courses.

In my teaching, beyond the language, I also emphasise the introduction of cultural elements as people are eager to know about this aspect of the language.

Is there a typical food of your native country and is there a special occasion where most families eat it?

Chinese New Year – called “Chun Jie” means “Spring Festival”, all family members sit together and make dumplings – called “Bao Jiao Zi” and eating dumplings, it is a great and fun time! Children also receive lucky money – called “Hong Bao” – in a red envelope.

Have you ever worked in another field?

I am a full-time Mandarin teacher! I always like playing drama with students which brings enthusiasm and engagement. It is a great way to inspire, motivate and encourage students to speak up, have fun in learning!
