How long have you been teaching for and how long for Cactus?

I have taught Turkish since 2001 and I have been a Turkish teacher in London for Cactus since 2015. I teach Turkish at the Cactus centre in London.

How long have you been living in the UK?

I have been living in the UK for 26 years.

How many countries have you been to?

I have been to about 18 countries, in Europe, Asia and North America. I lived for a while in Oman and Mexico.

What is your degree?

I have a BA Degree in German Language and Literature from Ankara and Gottingen. I also have a Diploma in Public Service Interpretation-English Law from Metropolitan, London.

Have you ever worked in another field?

I am also working as a Telephone Interpreter.

Do you have any specific language learning tips?

Language Learning Tips: find a song you like in the foreign language and translate the lyrics to English and keep listening and singing along, following the words (don’t choose an instrumental!).
Another tip: put sticky notes up around the house with words on – learn the vocabulary by heart.

What was your best teaching experience?

My best teaching experience: I had a deaf student. Despite the challenges I taught her to speak Turkish out loud quite clearly. She was so motivated, she used to write a diary for homework. She was my Language Hero.

Looking forward to seeing you on my course.
