George

Greek Teacher

How long have you been teaching for and how long for Cactus?

I have been a Greek Teacher around London since 2008. I started teaching at a Greek school but soon I focused on teaching adults both in classes and private tuition. I joined Cactus in January 2017 and I have been teaching from total Beginners to more advanced classes for them. I teach Greek at the Cactus centre in London.

How long have you been living in the UK?

I moved to London in 2004.

Where were you born and what is the city famous for?

I was born in Athens but I’m from Patras one of the main cities on the mainland (Peloponnese, South Greece) which is where I grew up. It is one of the most important Greek ports, the main port connecting Greece with Italy and Western Europe so it has flourished in the past through trade and has more cultural influences from Italy than other parts of Greece. This can been seen in architecture and art but mostly its carnival which is what Patras is most famous for. It is considered Greece’s best carnival and one of the best in Europe.

What is your degree and teaching experience?

My studies were in the fields of International Relations and Middle East Politics but eventually my passion for languages led me to teaching.

How many countries have you been to?

I love travelling, although having my family in Greece and visiting them often limits my opportunities to travel to different places as much as I would like to. I have traveled to ItalyAustriaHungaryGermany (briefly) and Israel and I would love to visit Switzerland because I love the Alps and would like to learn how to ski (growing up in Greece I didn’t have the chance) and also I would like to explore the different parts of the US because it has so many things to offer, New York is so different from California, the American South or Midwest.

Ελπίζω να σας δω σε μια από τις τάξεις μου!! (Hope to see you in one of my classes)

Frequently asked questions

What will I learn?

Our Course Outlines give an overview of the content and learning framework of Cactus courses. Includes themes, grammar and vocabulary you can typically expect to cover. These are intended as a guide only. Language teachers may at times adapt the course content to suit the specific level, aims and interests of the class.

How do I know what level I am?

Are you unsure where to start or progress to? Then take our level test and read our level descriptions for guidance.

Do I receive a qualification or certificate?

At the end of your course you receive a certificate of participation. You will be able to be download it from your MyCactus account. This confirms the language and level of course you have taken. Our course levels are based on two internationally recognised systems. You will have a universally accepted reference for your studies. (Important: Please note that you must complete the end of course questionnaire sent to you to be able to get your certificate! You will receive the course questionnaire by e-mail at the end of your course.)

Do I need a course book?

You will need a course book to attend your course. Course books are not included in the course fees. We recommend that you buy your own course book separately before your course starts. We will let you know which course book you will require and advise where you can purchase this. Please note that a course book often covers more than one level. So if you progress to the next course, you may not necessarily need to buy a new book. Again, we will advise you of this at the time. The course book is chosen by our teachers and academic team. This is based on which book is most suitable for the level of the class whilst offering the most communicative approach.
