Language Course Teachers
Cactus works with a large number of language teachers across the world, and specifically for our evening language classes, in the UK. Many of our teachers have been teaching with Cactus for years and our Operations and Academic teams ensure that the best teachers are interviewed and selected to teach our courses. All of our teachers have the relevant qualifications and experience for their language and they are all either native speakers or bilingual speakers. We’ve chosen a selection of our teachers here to talk about their experience and backgrounds.
Claudia Colia – Italian teacher
Claudia is one of our Italian teachers based in London, having lived there since 2003. From Rome, Claudia obtained an undergraduate degree in History of Art, a masters in Contemporary Art Theory and qualified as a teacher of Italian as a foreign language before coming to London. Claudia teaches Italian evening classes for Cactus in London, and she also teaches private classes for our corporate language training division.
We asked Claudia what she enjoys most about teaching and she said: ‘For me teaching and interaction with my students are really rewarding. I like my classes to be a full-immersion experience not only with the language, but also with the culture of my country. ‘
Katrin Fischer – German teacher
Katrin teaches German for Cactus and is based between Manchester and Liverpool. As such, she teaches in both locations for Cactus and also delivers language training for our corporate clients. Born in Jena, Germany, Katrin has lived in Switzerland where she obtained the European Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults and subsequently moved to the UK in 2008. Katrin places a lot of importance on using engaging and relevant materials in her classes, and preparing a structured lesson plan. She also says, ‘Go to the country where it’s spoken if you can – it gives you a great chance to practise, and to immerse yourself in the culture’.
Cedric Pytel – French teacher
Cedric teaches French for Cactus in London, both for our evening language classes and our private language training division. Cedric has taught some of our most high profile and famous clients, and is extremely professional as well as well-liked. Cedric is from Geneva and has lived in London for almost 20 years. With 17 years teaching experience Cedric has a Masters degree in French literature, an RSA (Royal Society of Art) certificate in teaching foreign languages and a City and Guilds 7307/1. Cedric loves sharing his language and culture with students and believes that the goals of each lesson should build on prior knowledge and exposure to language. Cedric’s advice for language students is: ‘Don’t be afraid of making mistakes – it’s a really important part of the learning process and is necessary to ensure that you progress!’
